Twice a year, GMA’s governing executive council meets in Washington, D.C., to review GMA’s programing initiatives and direct the association’s mission of providing high-quality engineering support, facilitating valuable educational resources and maintaining a robust government-relations program.
The council’s most recent meeting took place on Oct. 24, 2017, the eve of our biannual Lobby Day. It was attended by 18 company representatives from 10 executive council companies (Crown Resources, GSE Environmental, Hanes Geo Components, HUESKER, Owens Corning, Propex, TenCate, Tensar, Thrace-LINQ and TRI Environmental). Chair Keith Gardner of Crown Resources and I led the meeting. Key topics of discussion were focus group and committee participation (these groups are actively representing GMA at meetings with the American Society for Testing and Materials [ASTM] and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials [AASHTO] throughout the year); GMA’s webinar program (this program delivers high-quality industry education with member leadership and partnerships with like-minded organizations); expansion of GMA’s government-relations program; and strengthening GMA’s relationships with state transportation and environmental officials.
