Registration opens for GeoManitoba 2025

The Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) in collaboration with the Canadian Permafrost Association (CPA) invite you to GeoManitoba 2025, the 78th Canadian Geotechnical Conference and 9th Canadian Permafrost Conference. The conference will be held at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from Sunday, September 21 to Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Conference registration packages for GeoManitoba 2025 are now available for purchase through the Registration page of the website. Early pricing is available until July 26, 2025.

Student Contest Alert: All students who complete their GeoManitoba 2025 conference registration before May 1, 2025, will be entered into a random draw for a free CGS YP Conference registration! We’re looking forward to hosting you for the 78th Canadian Geotechnical Conference and 9th Canadian Permafrost Conference!

Young Professionals, we encourage you to also check out the CGS YP Conference, taking place September 18-20. All attendees of the CGS YP Conference will receive a discounted registration rate at GeoManitoba 2025. www.cgsypc2025.ca

The GeoManitoba 2025 abstract submission phase is now complete and authors were advised of their submission’s acceptance last month. Over 400 abstracts were submitted. Authors of accepted abstracts must submit their papers/extended abstracts by April 30, 2025, accompanied by one full conference registration. Full technical papers are required for CGS submissions; authors submitting to CPA themes may submit a full paper or an extended abstract.

The technical committee is eager to develop an excellent technical program for this year’s conference – we look forward to receiving your papers/extended abstracts. For paper/extended abstract submission details, including required templates, visit the Call for Papers page.

This year’s CGS keynote speakers

The RM Hardy Keynote Address will be given by Winnipeg’s own Ken Skaftfeld (TREK Geotechnical Inc.). He will open the CGS Annual Conference with his presentation on Monday, September 22, 2025.

 The 2025 Canadian Geotechnical Colloquium will be presented by Jennifer Day (Queen’s University). Jennifer’s title is: The Devil’s in the Details: Impacts of Geological Complexities in Rock Engineering.

Long-time CGS member, past-president, and 2007 RF Legget Medal winner, Suzanne Lacasse (Norwegian Geotechnical Institute), will give a keynote presentation on Risk-informed Decision-making Provides Necessary Insight to Help Reduce Risk.

The CPA keynote speaker presenting the Mackay Lecture will be confirmed in the coming weeks. This lecture, named in honor of Canada’s pre-eminent permafrost expert, the late Professor J. Ross Mackay, is given at each Canadain Permafrost Conference. Further details can be found on the Keynote Speakers page of the conference website.
