FHWA and AASHTO open nominations for 2018 STIC Excellence Award

Awards | April 27, 2018 | By:

Nominations for the 2018 State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC) Excellence Award are open now through July 1, 2018, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Center for Accelerating Innovation (CAI) announced.

CAI partners with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Innovation Initiative on the award, which recognizes STICs that have achieved significant results in fostering a strong culture of innovation, FHWA said. This award provides an opportunity to highlight examples of how a STIC is making a difference and the results of these efforts.

Key components to the success of innovation-deployment programs such as FHWA’s Every Day Counts are the state‐based approach and STIC concept, FHWA said. A STIC or other equivalent task force, committee or group brings together public and private transportation stakeholders to evaluate innovations and spearhead deployment in each state. In addition to lessons learned and best practices associated with specific innovations, states can also learn from each other in terms of organizational capacity, processes and procedures for the evaluation and implementation of innovations. The establishment of a well‐organized STIC or equivalent group, defined processes and procedures, and engaged leadership serve as the foundations for fostering a culture of innovation within a state.
