On Sept. 26, 2017, at IFAI Expo in New Orleans, La., Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) board vice chair and incoming chair Steve L. Ellington of Trivantage LLC of Glen Raven, N.C., presented two Geosynthetic Materials Association (GMA) executive council members with IFAI’s 2017 Outstanding Volunteer Award. IFAI honored the efforts of Daniel Selander of Thrace-LINQ and Doug Brown of Tensar International.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of IFAI,” Ellington said, “the key ingredient in the ‘special sauce’ of the association. [They] are essential to our association.”

Doug Brown is the national accounts manager for Tensar International and the 2nd vice chair on GMA’s executive council. He is also the leader of GMA’s efforts to collaborate with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“As a direct result of [Brown’s] leadership,” Ellington said, “GMA’s relationship with the FAA has been strengthened significantly over the last two years.”

Daniel Selander is the director of sales–geosynthetics at Thrace-LINQ and vice chair of GMA’s Geotextile Focus Group.

“[Selander] has been instrumental in developing relationships with state departments of transportation and reviewing geotextile specifications,” Ellington said, “and is also an engaged member of GMA’s lobbying delegation and a strong advocate of GMA participation within his company.”

The association developed the IFAI Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2012 to acknowledge several volunteers, each year, who go beyond the call of duty. Since 2012 IFAI has honored 22 people for their service.
