TVA and ESI honor safe work of employees at Widows Creek

On Aug. 29, 2017, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Widows Creek Fossil Plant in Jackson County, Ala., honored workers with a lunch to commemorate nearly seven years of work without a lost-time incident. This is a remarkable achievement, and, in a press release, Environmental Specialties International Inc. (ESI) congratulated the company and their team for this important milestone.

ESI has worked at the site since April 2015, installing geosynthetic liners and systems for coal combustion residuals (coal ash) containment and closure. TVA invited ESI to attend the celebration.

During the celebration, David Nolting, ESI’s corporate environmental and safety manager, praised the employees’ safe working practices and the supervisory leadership of ESI employee Randy Story.

Story has been with ESI since 2000 and has more than 30 years’ experience with geosynthetics. Since 2011, Story has supervised the installation of more than 35 million square feet of geosynthetics on TVA projects.

At the Widows Creek Fossil Plant, Story has managed 64,000 worker-hours without a single lost-time incident.

ESI is the nation’s largest geosynthetic liner installer for environmental containment applications, including for power, solid waste, energy exploration, mining, agri/aquaculture and other industries.
