Using geosynthetic-reinforced soil in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s Act 89 is a forward-looking five-year transportation funding plan that pledges more than $2 billion to invest in the state’s transportation infrastructure.

A major component of the plan is improvement and reconstruction of the state’s roads and bridges. One particularly innovative engineering initiative that PennDOT is using to improve and replace bridges is called geosynthetic-reinforced soil (GRS).
