The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) began distributing a draft of an Environmental Impact Statement in response to a proposal by P4 Production LLC, a subsidiary of Monsanto, to open a phosphate mine near Soda Springs, Idaho. The BLM is releasing the statement to generate public feedback on the project, which could result in one of the most environmentally advanced phosphate mines in the country. Comments will be collected during a 45-day period before the BLM makes a decision about the proposal.
