A claim made by EgoGen, Vancouver, Canada, stating that the Bonaparte River and residential wells are contaminated by toxins from the Cache Creek Landfill is being contested by the release of an independent third-party review. The new study indicates there is no evidence of leachate from the landfill, but landfill gas could be affecting the groundwater and should be monitored and dealt with as needed. Canada’s Ministry of Environment halted plans to expand the landfill as a result of the EcoGen report and could reverse the decision as a result of the new findings.
