Geomembrane used at South Africa’s first black-woman-owned manganese mine

A geomembrane provided by Zambia’s Kaytech Engineered Fabrics and installed by South Africa’s Aquatan Lining System was used at the Kalagadi Mine, near Hotazel, Northern Cape province, South Africa, about 675 miles (1,085 km) northeast of Cape Town. Kalagadi is the first manganese mine owned by a South African black woman, Daphne Mashile-Nkosi, known as the “iron lady” of the country’s male-dominated mining industry.

The mine includes a 1.6-million-square-foot (150,000-m²) wastewater containment pond. A heavy-grade bidim A6 1.5-mm HDPE nonwoven geomembrane as liner protection, according to the company.
