G-I, ASCE award nominations due Aug. 15

Nominations are open for several G-I and ASCE awards recognizing outstanding contributions to geotechnical engineering. Nominations are due Aug. 15.

Wallace Hayward Baker Award

The Wallace Hayward Baker Award recognizes ingenious innovation in ground modification. It honors the resourceful development of new technology or the creative application of existing technology to achieve field performance not previously demonstrated. The award may recognize one major advancement or a career of inventive contributions to the field.

Carl L. Monismith Lecture

The Carl L. Monismith Lecture is awarded annually for outstanding research contributions in pavement engineering. The selected lecturer receives a plaque and an honorarium and is encouraged to prepare a paper based on the lecture for publication in an ASCE conference proceeding, Geotechnical Special Publication, or journal.

Arthur Casagrande Professional Development Award

The Arthur Casagrande Professional Development Award supports the professional development of outstanding young practitioners, researchers, and teachers in geotechnical engineering. It recognizes accomplishments demonstrated through completed work, reports, or papers. Candidates must be 35 years old or younger on December 31 of the nomination year. ASCE membership is not required.

Harry Schnabel Jr. Award

The Harry Schnabel Jr. Award recognizes service, excellence, and innovation in the field of earth-retaining structures, including excavation support, permanent walls, and underpinning. Candidates must have at least 20 years of experience. The award places particular value on innovations that have been successfully incorporated into professional practice.

Martin S. Kapp Foundation Engineering Award

The Martin S. Kapp Foundation Engineering Award recognizes an outstanding example of innovative design or construction involving foundations, earthworks, retaining structures, or underground construction. Emphasis is placed on constructed projects where serious technical challenges were overcome or substantial cost savings were achieved. The work must be described in a publication available to the engineering community.
