Geo-Institute nominates two to board

The Geo-Institute Board of Governors has nominated Nick Hudyma, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE, and Sebastian Lobo-Guerrero, Ph.D., P.E.,BC.GE., M.ASCE, to join the G-I Board for a term beginning in October 2025.

Nick Hudyma, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE, is a professor of civil engineering at Boise State University, with expertise in geotechnical imaging, rock characterization, and non-destructive testing. He earned his Ph.D. in engineering (geotechnical) from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is a licensed professional engineer in Nevada. Dr. Hudyma is an associate editor of the ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering and currently chairs the Geo-Institute’s Technical Coordination Council. He previously served as Technical Co-Chair for Geo-Congress 2020 and has contributed to various professional societies including ARMA, ISRM and USUCGER.
 

Sebastian Lobo-Guerrero, Ph.D., P.E., BC.GE., M.ASCE, is a geotechnical project manager and laboratory manager at AGES Inc. in Pittsburgh, Pa., and an adjunct lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh. With over 22 years of experience, he specializes in the design of deep and shallow foundations, retaining structures, and landslide stabilization. He has authored over 150 technical papers and co-authored the State of Delaware LRFD Bridge Design Manual. Dr. Lobo-Guerrero has served as chair of the Pittsburgh Geo-Institute and director of the ASCE Pittsburgh Section. He sits on the Board of Trustees for the Academy of Geo-Professionals and has chaired multiple national DFI conferences. His work has been recognized with awards including the 2022 DFI President’s Award and the 2021 ASCE Lifetime Achievement Award.
