Field tours, volunteering, mentorship available in Nashville.
Tours
This year, the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) is offering two field tour options during its Environmental Connection (EC-’14) event Feb. 25-28 in Nashville. Field tours offer a way to experience, first-hand, the effects of the industry and what others are doing to stay ahead of regulations and how they utilize the latest best management practices (BMPs).
Field Tour 1: Nashville Green Field Tour
See how Nashville is integrating low-impact development (LID) concepts into public and private projects, including:
- Nashville’s New Convention Center—This facility reuses approximately 90 percent of the water that hits the roof of this six-block-long building. In addition, the building has a huge greenroof.
- Deaderick Street Greenscaping—This project incorporated greenscaping and LID concepts into the redesign of Deaderick Street in downtown Nashville. The greenscapes include tree boxes and bioretention to reduce runoff into the combined sewer system.
- Metro Office Building—Nashville’s Metro Water Services incorporated LID BMPs into the renovation of its new service center, including permeable pavement and bioretention.
- Metro Public Square—This project incorporated a greenroof and cistern into the parking structure.
Field Tour 2: Nashville Construction Site Demo Tour
On this tour you will be able to see BMPs installed, all types of products used, including wattles, new erosion control materials, and baffles.

Mentorship
This year, IECA has a conference mentorship program where conference rookies and conference veterans can get connected during and even before the conference.
Would you like to be a mentor to a conference rookie? -OR- Are you a conference rookie (3 years or less of IECA conference experience) and would like a mentor at the conference?
