Officine Maccaferri has announced two new strategic appointments: Luca Palma joins as chief sustainability officer, while Samuele Airaghi assumes the role of general manager and technical director for the Tunnelling Business.
With over 18 years of experience, including more than 12 in the field of sustainability and corporate social responsibility, Palma has developed specific expertise in ESG strategy development, reporting in accordance with international standards, and implementing circular economy projects for major industrial companies. He previously held senior positions at Tecno Group, V-Finance and ARB Spa, where he led teams dedicated to sustainable innovation and the design of ESG rating systems. He is a lecturer at Bologna Business School, an Ecovadis Approved Consultant and a GRI Certified Trainer.
In his new role, Palma will be responsible for defining and implementing the group’s sustainability strategy, integrating it into the industrial plan and ensuring compliance with the main international ESG standards. He will also coordinate reporting and stakeholder engagement activities, promoting projects in innovation, decarbonization and circular economy to support Officine Maccaferri’s sustainable transformation.
With over 20 years of experience in the design and management of major infrastructure projects in Italy and around the world, Airaghi will oversee the development of Officine Maccaferri’s Tunnelling segment, a strategic area for the group’s future and for the evolution of the sustainable construction sector. A graduate in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in leading companies such as Amplia Infrastructures, NET Engineering and Geodata, gaining extensive expertise in complex areas of underground engineering, project management, and value engineering.
Airaghi will be responsible for strengthening and expanding the company’s offering for underground works, with a focus on technological innovation, safety and the sustainability of its solutions. He will also oversee the operational activities of CP Technology, an Italian excellence in robotic automation and technologies for the construction of underground infrastructures, acquired by Officine Maccaferri in July 2025.
Stefano Susani, CEO of Officine Maccaferri, stated, “We are pleased to welcome Luca and Samuele to our team. Their skills and experience strengthen two key areas for the Group: ESG governance – a fundamental driver to guide the transition toward lower-impact industrial models – and Tunnelling, a strategic sector for consolidating our activities in global markets increasingly focused on sustainable mobility and infrastructure safety. These new appointments reinforce Maccaferri’s vision as a global company committed to innovating the engineering sector through sustainable solutions, creating value for our clients, partners, and the communities in which we operate.”
