The Fabricated Geomembrane Institute (FGI) presents the webinar – The Geosynthetics Discipline and Its Interaction with Geotechnical Engineering – on March 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. CST. The presenter is J.P. Giroud, Ph.D., a 1.0 PDH is available, it is free to industry professionals and students, and you can register here. Pre-recorded listenings will also be available:

March 6, 2024 at Noon AEST (Pre-recorded – Australia)

March 6, 2024 at Noon JST (Pre-recorded – Japan)

March 6, 2024 at Noon CAT (Pre-recorded – South Africa)

In this webinar, Dr. Giroud will describe how geosynthetics have become the most important innovation in geotechnical engineering in the second half of the 20th century. In particular, Dr. Giroud will focus on the geosynthetics discipline and its interaction with geotechnical engineering. He will illustrate how geosynthetics have pervaded most branches of geotechnical engineering because of the wide variety of functions that geosynthetics can perform.

Giroud has 62 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including 54 years of experience with geosynthetics. He is past president of the International Geosynthetics Society and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He developed many of the design methods currently used for geosynthetics applications (leakage evaluation, filter criteria, liner system design, slope stability, unpaved roads, etc.), designed more than a hundred structures incorporating geosynthetics, and performed numerous forensic analyses. He has presented lectures on geosynthetics on all continents.
