Terzaghi Day returns with special guest John Burland – Oct. 2

News | September 27, 2023 | By:

In 2016, the Geo-Institute (G-I) started observing Terzaghi Day, held every year on the birthday of Karl Terzaghi, the father (or grandfather, depending on who you’re talking to) of soil mechanics. Join us for Terzaghi Day 2023 on Monday, Oct 2 at 2 p.m. ET on the G-I Youtube channel. You can register here.

The guest speaker is John Burland of Imperial College London, a Geo-Legend for his own contributions to the field – he’s known as the engineer who saved the Tower of Pisa – and he’s also a fantastic historian of civil and geotechnical engineering. John will present on the life and legacy of Karl Terzaghi with a focus on how Terzaghi affected his own work – followed by Q&A from the viewers! Thanks to our friends at Geopier for sponsoring, and hope to see you in the chat!
