Richard Schmidt, owner of ACF West Geosynthetics, passed away on September 12, 2023.
“We are all relieved but heartbroken to lose such an amazing father, husband, grandfather, mentor and human,” his son Aaron Schmidt posted on Facebook. “We are all very aware of how many people’s lives he touched. From work colleagues, to the many families of his amazing employees, to our family and many others around the world. He has touched so many people’s lives and he will live on forever through all of their stories and memories. We love all of you.”
“With a very saddened heart I’m posting this,” said Fred Chuck, executive director of the Geosynthetic Materials Association (GMA). “We met in 1983 when Dick was our contact at Crown Zellerbach for Mirafi geotextiles on the West Coast, reconnected at ACF in ’87, then continued a long friendship (including time at the Schmidt house is Lake Oswego, Ore.) throughout our careers in geosynthetics. It’s odd to be posting this from Europe as we make our way to 12ICG Rome (International Conference on Geosynthetics) where we would have again reacquainted with Dick and Susan.”
