WOCA announces 2022 award winners

The World of Coal Ash 2022 (WOCA 2022), the largest ash-related event in the world, welcomed 1,057 attendees from 11 countries, hosted 42 sponsors and 107 exhibitors, and saw a WOCA-record-setting 245 presentations at its mid-May conference in Covington, Ky.

 Here are the WOCA 2022 award winners:  

  • The Alice Marksberry Memorial Award, sponsored by the UK Center for Applied Energy Research, was awarded to Bruce Hensel.
    • The WOCA Student Poster Award, sponsored by the American Coal Ash Association Educational Foundation, was awarded to Benjamin Kienzle.
  • The WOCA Poster Award, sponsored by Electric Power Research Institute, was awarded to Chin-Min (Jason) Cheng.
  • The WOCA Student Oral Presentation Award, sponsored by the Midwest Coal Ash Association, was awarded to Omar Amer.

WOCA is an international conference organized by the American Coal Ash Association (ACAA) and the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER). The 2022 conference, held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Ky., was the 9th joint biennial meeting with a focus on the science, applications and sustainability of worldwide coal combustion products (CCPs) as well as gasification products. Attendees represented marketers and end-users, environmental “green” businesses, architects, engineers, contractors, concrete producers, waste and disposal delegates, researchers, and governmental representatives.
