The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) released it’s 2019 Bridge Report, and it rates 47,052 bridges as structurally deficient, 7.6% of all bridges. The structurally deficient bridges carry 178 million travelers per day.
Thirty-eight percent of all bridges, some 235,020 spans, have identified repair needs. This includes structurally deficient bridges and one in three (18,842) interstate highway bridges.
The rate of repairs has slowed in 2018. The ARTBA estimates that it would take 80 years to repair all bridges needing repairs at the current rate of improvements.
