On Sept. 11, 2017, Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) director Rudy Malfabon told NDOT board the state had received $21,635,649 in additional federal highway funding for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.
In process known as August Redistribution, the federal government reclaims unused funds from states and awards the money to states that used their federal appropriations for shovel-ready projects and have more projects in the pipeline.
The (Carson City) Nevada Appeal reported that Gov. Brian Sandoval, who chairs the board, pointed out NDOT has been good at collecting more funding in August. Since 2004, the department has collected a total of $115.46 million in the annual August redistribution process.
