John M. Gardner, P.E., vice president/senior project manager at the Raleigh, N.C.-based engineering firm Smith Gardner Inc., has been named to the Editorial Advisory Committee (EAC) for Geosynthetics magazine.

Gardner, who joined the former G.N. Richardson & Associates firm in 1996, assumed the EAC position previously held by Greg Richardson, now retired. Stacey Smith is president/senior engineer at Smith Gardner Inc.

The 25-member EAC offers peer reviews, feature articles and case histories for publication, and general counsel for Geosynthetics, the 32-year-old publication that launched in 1983 as the Geotechnical Fabrics Report (GFR). In 2006, the magazine was redesigned and renamed Geosynthetics. Ron Bygness has been the magazine’s editor since 2005.

Gardner’s experience is primarily in solid waste engineering and related fields with a particular emphasis in siting, design, permitting, construction, operation, closure, and post-closure monitoring. He earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
