How many landfills are there in the U.S.? How many of those are Subtitle D facilities? Of those, about how many have a cell that is lined each year?

Scott,
There are currently fewer than 2,000 active landfills in the U.S. Some think the number is closer to 1,500. These landfills are bigger and better than in the past and can be thought of as regional facilities … 90% of these facilities are Subtitle D—nonhazardous municipal solid waste (MSW)—facilities and I think about half get a liner system each year.
