“Setting goals is imperative to success. Manufacturing has many different facets, and every position is important. Set short-term goals to allow yourself to learn all aspects of your industry. As these are achieved, you gain knowledge and experience that will lay the foundation for long-term success.”

The STEP Awards honor women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers and represent all levels of the manufacturing industry.
Pennsylvania-based East Coast Erosion Control is a global supplier of rolled erosion control products (RECPs), turf reinforcement mats (TRMs), and sediment retention fiber rolls (SRFRs).
“We are excited and honored to have an employee of ours be selected to receive this prestigious award,” said Anthony Forino, a partner at East Coast Erosion Control. “Diane manages our company with dedication and treats it as her own. She serves as a role model of our company values, and she reflects the quality of character and ethics of the people we like to have on our team at East Coast Erosion Control.”
A press release from the Manufacturing Institute said Hitt “has been integral to developing East Coast Erosion Control into one of the top four manufacturers in the erosion control industry. Despite a downturn in related markets, [she] was instrumental in growing the company, including exporting products to achieve a worldwide presence.
“As a result of her team’s focus on delivering exceptional service and products, the company was recognized in March 2013 as one of the top 50 privately held businesses by the Lehigh Valley Business Journal.”
The press release noted that Hitt has served on several nonprofit boards and is active in her church. She is currently pursuing professional and educational opportunities that will strengthen her performance, including becoming a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC).
Hitt currently serves as an industry liaison to the National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (NTPEP) and is on three ASTM and three International Erosion Control Association committees.
The Greater Reading (Pa.) Chamber of Commerce nominated Hitt for the STEP Award.
