News | September 15, 2009 | By:

J & S Franklin has announced receipt of a contract for more than $2 million (U.S.) for delivery of its DefenCell Force Protection System to an unspecified client. The system is intended for deployment in Africa in support of international operations in the region.

The order consists of 9,500 units of DefenCell DC3, enough material to build a blast wall 2m high and 11km long. The entire order, packed in 14 20-ft containers, was dispatched to the customer from the J & S Franklin manufacturing facility in the United States.

DefenCell is used in a variety of installations-protective walls, bunkers, berms, vehicle-crash barriers, temporary roads, and flood barriers. Its cellular design, with the latest geotextile construction technology, provides strength, versatility, and simplicity, according to J & S. Advances in UV resistance have been tested, demonstrating extended durability in extreme conditions.

J & S Franklin Ltd., founded in 1946, is a family-run business with more than 20 staff members in two U.K. locations.
