GRI Standards

News, Q&A: GMA Techline | April 1, 2008 | By:

Subject: GRI Standards — I am seeing references to GRI Standards GM 10, GM 14, and GM 18 in a project spec for a facility that will be under construction soon. There are other references too, of course, but these I’ve listed are not current, according to your Web site. Please advise if these non-current standards have been replaced or if they are obsolete, or if there is another reference that can be used for them. (John, California)

Reply: We have developed and published about 100 GRI Standards since 1985. The concept was, and is, to have the industry use these standards until a broader standards-setting organization develops its own (or co-opts ours) on the same topic. As such, ASTM has done so with about 20 of them and ISO another 10.

At that point, we cease to distribute ours and reference theirs. Thus, you will see on our Web site, and elsewhere, a line through our original standard, with the appropriate replacement listing to ASTM or ISO.

For the 60 or so still in service, we sell them at a nominal price. Hope this clarifies the matter.
