GTI now a distributor of VSO’s gasholders

Fredericton, N.B., Canada-based Geomembrane Technologies Inc. (GTI) announced in a July 21 press release they it is now the exclusive distributor of double-membrane gasholders, manufactured by VSO Biogas Technologies, in the United States and Canada. VSO is based in Artigues, a commune southern France.

The release said GTI can now deliver, install, and commission these gasholders, and can also provide advice on how to maximize the use of biogas.

The methodology is that double-membrane gasholders capture methane gas, a naturally-occurring component of biogas generated from anaerobic digestion. The press release noted that the gasholders can then store and regulate the use of biogas, which can be used in engines and combined heat and power (CHP) units for electricity and heat at wastewater treatment plants, municipalities, and farms.
Biogas can be also be used in boilers for process heat and steam or, in some cases, sold to a local utility for profit, according to the release.

The release explained that gasholders are made from flexible composite materials using high-frequency welding and consist of an inner membrane that holds the biogas and an outer membrane that protects the inner membrane from the elements and regulates internal pressure.

According to the press release, the gasholders range in size from 1,800ft³ to 180,000ft³ (50m³ to 5,000m³) and can be either pad mounted for solid structure digesters, or mounted directly on round digester tanks.
