10th International Conference on Geosynthetics Sept. 21–25 in Berlin

Co-location, keynote speakers announced.

When the quadrennial International Conference on Geosynthetics (10ICG) convenes at the Estrel Convention Centre in Berlin, Sept. 21-25, it will connect several geotechnical and civil engineering entities from around the world.

A Jan. 10 press release from the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) announced that 10ICG will co-locate with the German Geotechnical Society’s (DGGT) 33rd German Soil Mechanics Conference (Baugrundtagung or BT), a biennial event that expects more than 1,200 participants.

The release noted that all attendees of ICG or DGGT can attend the combined exhibition hall. Those who want to sit in on technical sessions at both conferences can do so with a reduced rate for participation in both conferences.

The release also said that during the latter half of 10ICG and the 33rd BT, Berlin will be the site of the world’s largest railway infrastructure exhibition—InnoTrans 2014—so attendees can take in an extra exhibition as they conclude their time with ICG and the DGGT.

The official language of 10ICG is English. The BT and the DGGT’s Young Geotechnical Engineering Session will be simultaneously translated into English.

10ICG is organized by the Germany Chapter of the IGS. The IGS press release also announced the 10ICG international lineup of speakers:

• Keynote, “Cost savings by using construction methods with geosynthetics”
  —Barry Christopher (USA)

The technical program schedule is forthcoming, according to the release, which said that final papers will be submitted to the scientific and technical committee in February 2014. Approximately 500 abstracts were submitted and the final oral presentation program will include no more than 300 presentations. As of Jan. 9, 2014, more than 90% of the exhibition space has sold.
