Expanded service, equipment for geosynthetics and industrial fabrics markets

Diamond Springs, Calif.-based Sinclair Equipment Co., manufacturer of heat-sealing machinery for the industrial fabrics industry, announced in a press release its acquisition of PWT International. PWT has been a leading equipment manufacturer to the geosynthetics market as well as the rigid plastics and roofing industries.

The acquisition provides Sinclair the ability to develop, build, and service a greater range of equipment within the industrial fabrics market as well as expanding into new markets, according to the release. Adding to the Sinclair hot wedge welding product line will be in-field equipment for the installation of various geomembrane and geotextile products. Along with the welders are all the accessories for the liner installer, including testing and extrusion tools. In addition to hot wedge welding products, Sinclair will now produce hot-air tools for all aspects of thermoplastic welding, the release said.

Further, the acquisition now establishes Sinclair as the exclusive North American distributor of products for the German manufacturer Munsch Kunststoff-Schweisstechnik GmbH. Munsch is considered a world leader in extrusion welding tools with an extensive lineup for the rigid plastics and geosynthetics industries, according to the release.

The press release also noted that the acquisition of PWT has nostalgic value too. PWT was formed from the former Columbine International in 2001. In 1979 when Columbine was initiated, the general manager was Frank Sinclair. Columbine grew into a presence in the roofing industry. Sinclair left in 1987 to form his own business, Sinclair Equipment Co., and went on to success in the flooring and industrial fabrics markets while Columbine established a strong presence in the geosynthetics and rigid plastic fabrication markets. Now the two companies are joined again.

According to the release, key personnel from PWT have now joined the team at Sinclair, including the former general manager, Greg Yaple. Yaple will provide a leading role as the geo and rigid-plastics sales manager and technical rep.
