The ASCE Geo-Institute is presenting Claudia Zapata, Ph.D., as the 2025 Carl Monismith Lecture. The lecture will stream live from the Pavements Conference in Glendale, Ariz., at 6:15 p.m. EDT June 10.
Dr. Zapata, professor at Arizona State University, is a nationally recognized leader in pavement engineering and soil behavior. Her research focuses on unsaturated and expansive soils, environmental effects on pavement performance and bio-induced soil improvements. She has authored over 90 technical publications and played a key role in developing the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide.
The ASCE Geo-Institute established the lecture to honor Professor Monismith’s legacy in pavement engineering. His more than 50-year career at UC Berkeley has shaped generations of pavement professionals worldwide. Each year, the lecture recognizes outstanding contributions to pavement research and engineering.
