FGI News: FGI at Geotechnical Frontiers 2025

The FGI was busy during the recent Geotechnical Frontiers 2025 Conference in Louisville, Ky. The Geo-Frontiers Conference is a collaboration between the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Advanced Textiles Association. The FGI organized the following events:

  • FGI Display Booth #323 was a busy hub of education, industry engagement, and social interaction including a Women in Geosynthetics Espresso Bar.
  • The FGI held its biennial membership meeting on March 4, which was attended by 37 members and guests. In addition to introducing the new officers and sirectors, Timothy D. Stark, FGI Technical Director and Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, reviewed the current state of the FGI, including current activities, finances, accomplishments, goals and future plans for the research institution.
  • Women in Geosynthetics conducted the Women in Geosynthetics Round Table Discussion on March 4 from and hosted an Espresso Bar at the FGI Booth before the Round Table Discussion.
  • The FGI presented a technical session on Containment Applications on March 5, which included the following five excellent presentations:
  1. Hinkle Reservoir Replacement Liner, Baffle, and Floating Cover- Elliott (Viaflex) & Hilts (HCG)
  2. Challenging Environmental Containment for Large Crude Oil Tank Storage Facility – Fraser (Layfield)
  3. New Developments in Prevention and Protection of Water Resources. Why EIA-PVC Alloys Are the Best Choice for Long-Term, Improved Performance – Lens (Cooley)
  4. Over 30 Years of Leak Location Surveys: The Cliffs Notes Version – Kemnitz (LLSI)
  5. Geomembranes Sustainability through Longevity: Mammoth Cave – Shehane (Seaman)
