Roads, one important type of infrastructure, deteriorate with traffic loading and are increasingly impacted by climate stressors such as sea level rise, floods, and extreme temperatures. Geosynthetics can enhance the resilience and sustainability of roads under traffic loading and climate stressors and by minimizing material consumption and utilizing recyclable materials.
This webinar will discuss the relationship between resilience and sustainability and focus on recent advancements in leveraging geosynthetics to bolster the resilience and sustainability of roads. Examples include the use of geogrids to increase resilient responses and minimize permanent deformations of roads, the utilization of geocells combined with recycled aggregates for sustainable road construction, and the application of wicking geotextiles to mitigate moisture-related road problems in cold regions.
