The standards and practices committee has been convened by the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) board of directors to develop standards for the construction stormwater industry. The board recognizes local and regional differences in terminology and design of erosion and sediment control practices. The board also recognizes that standardizing design based upon sound science, testing criteria for sediment controls, monitoring recommendations to provide feedback to site operators and terminology will advance the stormwater industry. The first two standards, on silt fences and sediment basins, are now available:
- IECA design standard: Sediment barrier—Silt fence (https://ehub.ieca.org/products/ieca-design-standard-sediment-barrier-silt-fence). This standard is intended to guide designers of a silt fence when used as a temporary sediment control barrier.
- IECA design standard: Sediment basin (https://ehub.ieca.org/products/ieca-design-standard-sediment-basin). This standard is intended to guide designers on the purpose, design, selection, installation and maintenance of a sediment basin when used as a temporary sediment control practice to detain sediment from stormwater runoff prior to discharge from a construction site.
