Houston-based GSE Environmental announced in a Sept. 29 press release that it is closing its manufacturing plant in Antofagasta, Chile.

The release said that “GSE has conducted a thorough evaluation of different means to optimize manufacturing productivity, market competitiveness, and quality, and has determined that it can more efficiently serve the South America region by leveraging its global production facilities.

“GSE is fully committed to its customers across South America and will continue to staff a sales office in Santiago in order to provide a local point of contact in the region.”

Bob Preston, GSE president and CEO, said: “The decision to close this facility was not made lightly. However, we believe this is the best way to serve our customers across the Americas by streamlining processes, consolidating manufacturing operations, and reducing costs.”

GSE is a manufacturer and marketer of geosynthetic liners, with sales offices throughout the world and manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Germany, China, Thailand, and Egypt.
