IGS North America update: All about Toronto

IGS-NA | June 1, 2023 | By: Ben Leshchinsky

IGS North America (IGS-NA) is deep into planning GeoAmericas 2024, the 5th Pan-American Conference on Geosynthetics: geoamericas2024.org. Abstracts were accepted through May 24, and the technical and education committees will send the initial presentation/paper invitations in June. Exhibit and sponsorship opportunities will open to the field by June 2023.

GeoAmericas 2024 will be held April 28–May 1, 2024, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. Toronto, Ont., is a major engineering hub in Canada, particularly around the key topics for the conference: mining, energy, sustainability and transportation.

It’s also a truly international city, being the fourth largest city in North America and the most-visited destination in Canada. More than half the population was born outside of Canada, and more than 200 languages and dialects are spoken in the city. Also, with two international airports, Toronto is connected to more than 180 global destinations.

One of the highlights of GeoAmericas will be the inclusion of a GeoJeopardy engineering trivia competition. We will announce the eight institutions invited to compete in this single-elimination tournament that will take place daily as part of the plenary activities.

More details will be shared in the next issue of Geosynthetics. Thank you for being part of our engineering community!
