As the Geosynthetic Materials Association (GMA) continues to deal with the implications of the pandemic, the association is making every effort to maintain our influence with federal and state governments to position our industry for success. With the passage of the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA), GMA’s focus has moved to the appropriations of funding for the IIJA, in particular, the possibility of a Center of Excellence for Geosynthetic Sustainability.

While GMA has been successful in connecting virtually with congressional members during these pandemic months, the association will expand upon these successes during GMA spring Lobby Day 2022, May 11–12 in Washington, D.C. Many members of Congress are now advocating for our industry, in large part, due to GMA’s lobbying efforts along with the support and involvement of GMA members. It is critical that GMA members continue to educate members of Congress about national issues affecting companies within their districts and states. Lobby Day is a prime benefit for GMA members.

Due to today’s fluid nature of visitations, GMA’s Washington, D.C.-based lobbying partner Whitmer & Worrall will be setting up three styles of meetings in hopes of reaching as many congressional offices as possible:

  • Congressional office visits: Unlike years past where we could walk the halls of Congress and visit offices with unlimited attendees, the offices that are open to visits are limiting the numbers of visitors, so depending on the specifics of the office, we will be assigning attendees.
  • Reception/lunch invitations: We will be inviting members of Congress to join us during an extended reception/lunch. The setting will allow for representatives/senators to address our whole group as well as providing provide areas for more direct conversations.
  • Virtual visits: Our base will be located at the conference rooms at the Whitmer &Worrall offices at 1401 H St NW. Several congressional offices are accepting only virtual meetings. We learned that our conference room live setting with our members present in one room and connecting to the congressional office, while virtual, enhanced the flow of conversation among the members. We will have conference rooms set up to allow multiple meetings to occur simultaneously.

GMA will make every effort to schedule meetings with your individual congressional delegation. Please register your intent to attend as soon as possible and include your local district information.
