Geosynthetics magazine offers free sponsored webinar on natural facings for steep slopes and walls

Case Studies | October 9, 2018 | By:

Geosynthetics magazine will present the Tensar Corp.-sponsored webinar “Natural Facings for Better Performance and Value on Very Steep Slopes and Walls” on November 8 at 1:00 p.m. EST.

This presentation will provide a case study example of how natural facings provide better performance and value on very steep slopes and walls. Steve Luptak, national product manager at Tensar, will provide the background behind a project completed using the SierraScape retaining wall system for The Hills at Governors Island on New York Harbor. Throughout the presentation, you will discover the designer benefits, economic benefits and installation benefits of using natural facings when supporting steep slopes and walls.

Reinforced soil slopes and steepened slopes present unique stability challenges for just about any engineer or contractor. Most utilize grade-separation applications, but there are other alternatives, such as natural and landscaped sloping structures. Natural facings enhance property value, support environmental compliance and minimize footprints with maximized usable land in undeveloped areas.

The Hills at Governors Island reduced material and installation costs by minimizing fill requirements and allowing the use of on-site fills, yet provided a beautiful and natural solution to soil stabilization, which is what they were striving to achieve.
