“Afterparty,” the installation by MOS Architects at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City, N.Y., opened last June to much professional acclaim.
The installation is part of the annual Young Architect’s Program run collaboratively with the Museum of Modern Art to explore new design directions. MOS’s design featured several wind chimneys made from aluminum fabric stretched across a structural armature, then thatched with a geotextile from Indonesia.
The chimneys exploit the stack effect of natural air flow to cool the courtyard where various museum-related events are scheduled. The work was on view until late September 2009.
