IECA’s Environmental Connection 2010, billed as the largest erosion and sediment control show and the world’s largest soil and water event, will take place at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. The conference features technical sessions, new products and technology, money-saving dining options, and pre-conference courses.
“Geosynthetics: Present and Perspectives in México,” presented by SMIG, GMA, and IGS, will be held at the Technological Museum of the Federal Electricity Agency (CFE) in Mexico City.
This 2.5-day course at the University of Delaware/Newark is based on the newly revised FHWA reference on Earth Retaining Structures (June 2008) and the AASHTO design and construction specifications-both current and complete references are based on the 21st century civil engineering design platform Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD).
This is a course to meet the needs of geotechnical and structural specialists, generalist civil engineers, contractors, and retaining wall representatives, taught by nationally recognized experts Jerry DiMaggio and Silas Nichols.
Course topics include: earth-retaining systems, soil and rock properties, modular gravity and mechanically stabilized earth walls, retaining wall selection and costs, contracting methods and bidding documents.
2.0 CEUs are awarded for full participation.

This one-day short course in Folsom, Pa. presents the origin, growth, and costs of mechanically stabilized earth walls and soil slopes using geosynthetic (geotextile and geogrid) reinforcement. Design and analysis will be the focus, illustrated using two computer codes: MSEW and ReSSA, generated for the Federal Highway Administration by Dr. Dov Leshchinsky. Upon completion, participants receive eight professional development hours (PDHs). To register or for more information: www.geosynthetic-institute.org.
Southwest Industrial Fabrics Association will have its annual convention at the Capitol Hotel in Little Rock, Ark., U.S.A. SWIFA serves fabricator members from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, with supplier members from across the U.S. For information, visit www.swifa.org.
The theme of the 2010 USSD Conference, which will take place at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento, Calif., is Collaborative Management of Integrated Watersheds. Attendees will discuss best practices and new technologies in design, construction, monitoring, safety, security and risk management for levees, impoundments, concrete dams and embankment dams.
“Celebrating the Past, Engineering the Future” is the theme for the 2010 annual NACE conference at the Sheraton Fort Worth Hotel & Spa in Fort Worth, Texas. E-mail nace@naco.org for more information.
Organized by the Brazil Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), this event will be held at the Hotel Jequitimar. Guarujá, situated on the island of Santo Amaro, 55mi (88km) southeast of São Paulo, is listed as one of the most fashionable and busiest resorts in São Paulo state.
The Fifth International Conference on Geotechnical Earthquake and Soil Dynamics, plus a symposium in honor of Professor I.M. Idriss, will be held at the Marriott Mission Valley in San Diego. The deadline for abstract submissions is April 2. Exhibitor registration is open now.
GeoShanghai 2010 will be held at the Grand Central Hotel in Shanghai, China. The conference intends to bring together researchers and practitioners from around the world to share the advancements and discuss the future directions of geotechnical engineering. A wide range of issues related to geotechnical engineering will be addressed at the conference. Technical papers will be compiled into a series of ASCE Geotechnical Special Publications.
