Oil, oil everywhere! Geosynthetics to the rescue!

Geosynthetics suppliers and end-product manufacturers are stepping up to bring help to the oil-gush containment efforts in the Gulf of Mexico.

Our umbrella company, the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) has made a special effort to assemble a list of member companies that are offering solutions and many of them are geosynthetics suppliers.

Fiberweb, Belton, TechFab, Layfield, Flint, TenCate, Cooley, Colorado Lining, Aqua Dam, Syfilco, Top Value Fabrics are some of the GMA-member companies listed by IFAI that are providing products, applications, and services to address this disaster. We have seen some of the schematics of applications and products that these companies are offering and many are very innovative.

Some of the geosynthetics that are deployed will come in contact with the crude oil or tarballs in the Gulf. Some may be cleansed and reused. But many could require disposal after doing their jobs.

Geosynthetic materials offer a solution here as well. The landfills and waste disposal sites need geomembrane and geosynthetic clay liners to ensure the waste oil doesn't make its way back into the environment.

Geosynthetics to the rescue!
