  • ASTM geosynthetics committees developing proposed new standards

Three subcommittees of ASTM International Committee D35 on Geosynthetics are currently developing several proposed new standards.

  • Industry analysts offer plastics predictions for the Middle East

With relatively inexpensive raw materials at hand, manufacturers in the Middle East could place themselves among the world’s leading plastics producers within a few years, according to industry analysts.

  • Now is the time

It is easy to sit on the sidelines and complain that the industry has stagnated, that some all-encompassing, ambiguous organization should do a better job of growing our industry, or my industry association does not care about me.

Resources

  • Geotextile for base stability

Geotextiles are regularly used to provide separation, stabilization, and/or reinforcement to paved surfaces such as asphalt on a stone base course, as in a tennis court.

  • Geotextile cushion design

The extension from the truncated cones that were used to real soils/gravels are best-estimate values.

  • Geomembrane wrinkles during installation

Years ago, I thought that small wrinkles would flatten out when overburden was applied. Unfortunately, they do not.

  • Access roads on HDPE liners

I recommended 600-900mm thickness based on heavy waste transfer trucks going into the landfill and the dynamic loads that they impose.

  • Effects of temperature on geomembrane strength

There have been undocumented studies on the temperature dependence of HDPE GMs insofar as their stress vs. strain response is concerned.

  • Geotextile compatibility

To my knowledge, polypropylene is extremely resistant to the entire range of pH-values, from acidic to alkaline.

  • Polymer question

Technically, each polymer has advantages and disadvantages.

  • Landfill liner installation inspection

We have the exact program you are looking for.

  • HDPE welds

The concern is that the additional heating by the extrusion welding would decrease the molecular weight and have a degrading effect on the material at this sensitive location.

  • Gas diffusion coefficients

Henry Haxo of Metrocon evaluated solvent vapor diffusion—as opposed to water vapor diffusion— many years ago.
