Tribute for service: Pete and Rosemary Stevenson

This collection of photos shows Pete and Rosemary at different events through their many years of service with the International Geosynthetics Society.

Pete Stevenson was one of the founding members of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) in 1983. He served as IGS treasurer for 10 years from 1984–1994 and as IGS secretary for 16 years from 1994–2010.

Rosemary Stevenson was the Secretariat Manager, administrative assistant for the IGS. She began her involvement in the IGS office as a volunteer in 1984 before becoming the official Secretariat Manager in 1995.

At the 9ICG in Guaruj´, Brazil, last May, they were both honored at the quadrennial IGS Awards and General Assembly—the seventh in IGS history. Pete was given the highest award bestowed by the IGS, that of Honorary Member. Rosemary’s service was recognized with the IGS Plaque.

Pete Stevenson’s longtime friend, Bernard Myles, who died in April and who is seen with Pete in the totem photo, was also honored at the 7th General Assembly with the new IGS Corporate Service Award that will be presented in his memory.

Pete’s tribute to Bernie at the General Assembly was published in the June/July issue of Geosynthetics.
