IECA announces winner of technical paper award

The Denver, Colo.-based International Erosion Control Association (IECA) announced in a Sept. 3 press release its winner of the Most Distinguished Technical Paper Award for Environmental Connection 2014.

The paper by Julie Etra, principal of Western Botanical Services Inc. (Reno, Nev.), is titled “Effects of herbicide and soil inoculation on a northern Nevada post-fire restoration site.” It was cited for the award that honors presenters who have demonstrated excellence within the content of their Environmental Connection technical papers.

Environmental Connection is IECA’s annual conference and expo, which will be held Feb. 25–28, 2014, in Nashville, Tenn.

The press release noted that Etra has more than 28 years of experience in the fields of erosion control, revegetation, restoration, botanical surveys, environmental documents, monitoring, and wetlands. She has had extensive teaching experience, has produced more than 14 publications, and has received numerous awards for design work. Etra has been an active member of IECA since 1988 and currently serves on its board of directors as vice president for international development.

The release said that IECA will provide information on all of its Awards of Environmental Excellence later this year. They will be recognized at Environmental Connection 2014 in Nashville.

Founded in 1972, the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) is a non-profit organization devoted to serving as a global resource for the prevention and control of erosion and sediment related issues.

IECA’s annual Environmental Connection will co-locate with the Geosynthetics 2015 conference in Portland, Ore., Feb. 15–18, 2015.
