Profile introduces new biodegradable growth medium

Building on the performance of the original Flexterra Flexible Growth Medium, Profile Products unveiled its new patent-pending Flexterra High Performance-Flexible Growth Medium (HP-FGM) in June.

In a company press release, Profile said that the HP-FGM product represents the next generation in flexible growth media, offering 600% greater initial seed germination and more than 250% greater biomass than its predecessor with more than 99% erosion-control effectiveness upon application; and it is 100% biodegradable.

“We were able to apply new technologies that help our customers realize enhanced environmental benefits without sacrificing erosion control or cost effectiveness,” said Marc Theisen, Profile’s vice president of erosion control solutions.

The new product is a result of Profile’s Green Design Engineering, according to the release. The new HP-FGM consists of 100% recycled and phyto-sanitized wood fibers and 100% biodegradable crimped interlocking fibers. Micro-Pore particles optimize water and nutrient retention while increasing wet bond strength and increasing resistance to sheet flow, the press release stated.
