For more than 25 years, Geosynthetics has been the voice of an industry that has been steadily growing and developing as an effective, environmentally responsible, civil engineering discipline. Six dynamic issues every year, including the award-winning Specifier’s Guide, give suppliers a highly credible vehicle to reach 14,000 civil engineers, contractors, developers, consultants, installers and government regulators.
The expanding use of geosynthetic materials and range of applications in highways, stabilization, erosion control, water resources, drainage, renewable energy and other construction projects are creating some of the greatest opportunities in the specialty fabrics industry. Nonwovens, particularly geogrid and geofoam applications, are some of the fastest-growing market segments occurring in the United States.
The Congressional Transportation Bill (SAFETEA-LU) is also contributing to a U.S. growth rate of just over 5% per annum—albeit growth in 2009 is flat, it should begin to rebound to a growth rate of 3-5% in 2010 as $50 billion in funds from the U.S. government’s stimulus package fuels road/bridge construction projects in 2010. Reauthorization of the transportation bill is potentially worth $375 billion, making it one of the largest public works projects in U.S. history. Ongoing education of civil engineers and specifiers to advocate for and specify geosynthetic materials will fuel even more growth.
