GeosyntheticsME concludes 2015 conference with big attendance, first awards

The Geosynthetics Middle East 2015 conference and trade show was held Nov. 16–17 in Abu Dhabi City, UAE.

The recently concluded Geosynthetics Middle East 2015 in Abu Dhabi attracted more than 400 industry experts from 35 countries for the 7th edition of this international conference and exhibition, according to a Nov. 22 press release.

The release noted that with hundreds of international industry experts attending and a sold out exhibition hall, GeoME proved once again to be the largest event of its kind in the Middle East.

Organized by SKZ German Plastics Center in partnership with BMC Gulf LLC and under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, the conference and exhibition took place Nov. 16–17 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The opening ceremony was attended by high officials from the European Union Delegation and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, who highlighted the importance of the conference in their welcome notes.

The 2015 keynote address featured H.E. Eng. Majed Abed Al Katheeri, director of internal roads and infrastructure at Abu Dhabi City Municipality. Eng. Majed outlined the aims of GeoME to support a sustainable and environment-friendly infrastructure.

The press release said that, for the first time the conference was complemented by SKZ certified workshops and short courses on subjects such as specifications for geosynthetics, smart composites and hybrids in civil engineering and building constructions.

The 1st GeoME Awards included “Best Geosynthetics Project” by Maccaferri Middle East LLC and “Best Geosynthetics Innovation and Technology” by CETCO.
