Gary Kolbasuk receives Award of Merit

ASTM Geosynthetics Committee honors Raven director

ASTM International Committee D35 on Geosynthetics has honored Gary Kolbasuk, director of innovation and technology at Raven Industries, Sioux Falls, S.D. with the Award of Merit. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.

A member of ASTM International since 1985, Kolbasuk was cited for his years of outstanding committee service and his contributions to new and revised standards for geomembranes. He has chaired the subcommittee on Geomembranes (D35.10) since 2005 and has been recognized with two D35 Awards of Recognition. Kolbasuk also serves on Committees C16 on Thermal Insulation, D20 on Plastics, and E06 on Performance of Buildings.

Kolbasuk was previously vice president of manufacturing at Serrot International Inc.in Henderson, Nev., and vice president of manufacturing and technical director at the National Seal Co.in Galesburg, Ill., before joining Raven’s Engineered Films Division in 2001. He holds a master’s degree in geochemistry from the California Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s in chemistry and geology from North Illinois University.

In addition to ASTM International, Kolbasuk participates in geosynthetics industry activities with the Geosynthetic Materials Association, the Fabricated Geomembrane Institute, the Geosynthetic Institute, the International Geosynthetics Society, and the North American Geosynthetics Society.
