Strata Geosystems India Pvt. Ltd. announced in an Apr. 22 press release its new manufacturing unit in Daman, “the first of its kind in India.”

The new facility, located on India’s west coast, will produce the company’s geocell line, StrataWeb, “a three-dimensional soil reinforcement system comprised of honeycombed high-strength cell structures of texturized high-density polyethylene (HDPE).”

The geocell production will have numerous applications, according to the press release, including: the improvement of load carrying capacity for weak soils, protection of soil slopes from erosion and protection of geomembranes in reservoirs and landfills, and other applications such as roads and railways, embankment slopes, and haul roads for construction and mining.

The release noted that the new geocell production could also supplement other geosynthetic components such as geogrids and segmental precast concrete systems.
