RE: Geomembrane UV protection?
I have a question regarding geomembranes and I hope you can help. If a geotextile is placed over a geomembrane, is that considered sufficient to provide long-term UV protection for the geomembrane? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Reply: It’s good to hear from you and please don’t hesitate to ask anything. Regarding a geotextile over a geomembrane for the purpose of UV protection it is generally not worthwhile. Exposed lifetimes of geomembranes are in the 18- to 40-year time frames (you have available GRI Report #40 in this regard) and geotextiles rarely last for one year. So you would have to replace the geotextiles repeatedly for long-term protection of the underlying geomembrane.
Best regards,
